Tumbletown Tales

The wife and I were channel surfing the other day and stumbled across the strangest show we’ve ever seen. It’s actually not a whole show, per se, but rather a short segment of a children’s program called TVOKids developed for TVOntario Canadian public television. The segment, called Tumbleweed Tales, is meant to teach kids simple math concepts, but the funny thing is that it’s performed entirely by small rodents (with character dialog performed by the hosts of TVOKids).

It’s probably best I stop explaining and just let you watch. Let me know if you find it as entertaining as we did.

Meme of fours

I was tagged for this by my lovely wife, so here goes:

Four jobs I’ve had

  1. Pizza deliverer for 5 Buck Pizza
  2. Coffee and danish gopher1 for the Youth Pastor at Southeast Baptist Church
  3. Superhero2 for Western Governors University
  4. Evil junk mailer3 for Centex Home Equity

Four films I could watch over and over

  1. Stranger Than Fiction
  2. Minority Report
  3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
  4. A toss-up between The Incredibles and Ratatouille

  1. This is a joke, actually. I can’t recall getting anyone coffee or a danish once during the three months I was there. This was actually a very rewarding internship where I learned boatloads about what it means to work in full-time ministry. []
  2. This is an exaggeration, obviously, but not far from the truth. As an IT Service Desk Technician, I put out a lot of fires and generally save the day on a regular basis. []
  3. This one’s no joke. I maintained a Microsoft Access database full of leads (mostly homeowners gathered from public records) and printed, stuffed, and mailed several hundred mail merge letters per week to people on the list. It was a good paying high school job, but I’ll never do it again, I promise. []

The Amazing Race 6

“[“The Amazing Race 6″:http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race6/]” kicked off last night. I first started watching this show during “season 5”:http://joeyday.com/2004/07/11/amazing-race-5 this summer, and I highly recommend it. If you missed last season, now’s a good time to start watching!

The Amazing Race airs Tuesdays at 9:00 pm Eastern and Pacific.

Amazing Race 5

I’ve found my new favorite show. I watched _[“The Amazing Race 5”:http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race5/]_ last night and loved every minute of it. I’ve seen advertisements for this show many times before and was always mildly interested, but somehow I never got around to watching it. I’m not sure how I missed four whole seasons, but I’m definitely hooked, now.

I’ve never been a big fan of reality TV, since most of it is pure drivel — steamy romance, bickering, foul-mouthed slander, etc. — but this show is clean and has a great premise. Teams compete to see who can be the first to reach various checkpoints. They don’t know where the next checkpoint is until they read a clue found at the current checkpoint. At the end of each episode, they reach a pitstop, where the team in last place gets eliminated, and everyone gets to take a breather.

I’m hoping my brother-in-law will get interested, too. He and I, along with several other family members, had a bracket wager on the third _American Idol_. We’ll have to see about setting up something similar for this show.
