The Wiki is Down, Yo.

bq. Looks like somebody tried to cramma-lamma Swiss Cake Rolls into the disk drive.

Ahem, well, I’ve been getting a few emails about the Homestar Runner Wiki being down this weekend. Don’t nobody panic. We’re not gone forever or anything.

The wiki has simply exceeded its bandwidth limit, which means too many people are visiting and the server can’t handle the traffic. The site should be up tomorrow at the start of the new month and we’ll most likely be moving it to a more powerful server sometime in the next few weeks.

  1. So… will our beloved Wiki be down for a long time again? I’m not complaining- the last server move (from WikiTikkiTavi to one of those, right?) got me onto the forum. Oh well. Good luck with whatever you do.

  2. Ummmm…. from the original post

    Goodness, read the article.

As for the site, I sure hope something happens fast. It’s only money.

  3. Aww, man. Right when I got home from vacation. And it says I have a private message, but I can’t read it ’till July 1.

  5. Ed: It appears that Aaron’s trackback is unrelated to this post. From what I can tell, Aaron discovered Joey’s blog via GeoURL. He then goes on to mention Joey’s Too Many Websites post. I guess he just trackbacked the wrong URI.

What makes it really weird is that Aaron’s post was written on February 27th but the trackback is much more recent. Maybe his new blog software did something odd?

  6. Somebody from your site who was bored after it went down wandered over by encyclopediadramatica.com and found the Homestar Runner entry. We’re a parody wiki and thus unconcerned with facts, let alone typos. So when I wrote the “Homestar Runner” article (I am a H*r fan by the way) I just slagged H*R and your wiki (mostly) in jest (“for the lulz” as we say). I accidentally typed “Spot The Useable Fun Facts” instead of “Select” Now, you have to sign up for an account before you can edit. It’s our way of keeping out unfunny people. He got an account just to change the one word “select”. It was pomptly reverted (“For the Lulz” as we say) and the entire thing began a gigantic edit war. “Do you find truth offensive? Do you shy away from anything correct, normal, and sane? Or would you rather just incite anarchy and chaos across the web, net, and world?” A quote from HRWiki Fan. It now graces our “Basic Rules” page.

I felt like letting you know for some reason. Don’t know why.

  7. Tom-
Yes, I updated my blog from .Text to Community Server keeping the same URL. As such, new trackbacks were created. However, why it points to this post, I don’t know. Also, the comment doesn’t make sense as an image is placed as text instead of the actual text. Sorry for any confusion.

  8. ParkingStones:

Well I stumbled on your parody encyclopedia for the same reason this other guy did (because hrwiki was down) but I’m not the one who edited it…

What I did find on your site, is a very disturbing image photoshoped into StrongBad’s computer screen (is that the famous goatse.cx image?). While it may be funny to some who are into these kind of extreme images, and that I feel that I have no chances of getting you to remove this, I think I have the right to at least express my disgust to what I’ve seen on your site, while searching for a cartoon that is exempt from anything like that.

Still… anyone from the hrwiki.org can explain what’s the deal with the Skate Party website linked on the H*R site?

  9. Cheddar, I appreciate your comments about the Wiki being down today, but my original post above was written back in May during another Wiki downtime, so the information doesn’t apply to the current situation.

The current downtime is being caused by (we think) a deliberate denial of service (DDoS) attack. We’re not sure when things will be back online, but we’ve got our network admin working on it. We hope to have things back up by the end of the day. If not tonight, I’m sure things will be back up well before your birthday.
