WordPress Plugin: LDS Linker 1.2

Notice: A newer version of LDS Linker has been released.

LDS Linker is a WordPress plugin that changes any LDS scripture reference into a hyperlink pointing to the Internet Edition of the LDS Scriptures.

It recognizes references whether the book name is written out or shortened using the standard abbreviations. Here are some examples:

Moro. 10:3–5 is a scripture mastery verse. Other scripture mastery verses include Mosiah 4:30, D&C 130:22–23, and JS-H 1:15–20. I have Articles of Faith 1:1–13 memorized—how ’bout you?

This should be the last update for a while. I was able to reproduce the problem with D&C references on a fresh WordPress install, and found that & is another valid way to write &. My code wasn’t catching that. I’ve also tested the plugin using several different fancy markup plugins. Things seem to be running smoothly in every configuration I have tested.

A big thanks to those who’ve helped me improve the code. Are you using LDS Linker? Please let me know what you think. End mark

  1. Great work, I must give credit where credit’s due. This has replaced John Hesch’s LDSScripturizer in my plugins list.

I noticed that links to 4th Nephi don’t appear to work. Any tips?

  2. Thanks for the heads-up, dp. You were right about the bug with fourth Nephi verses. The Bible plugin I ported this from wasn’t expecting 4’s in front of book names. I didn’t want to post yet another entry for this, so I’ve decided to call this version 1.2.1 (now linked above).

This version also fixes a bug I found with links to the Official Declarations. Apparently you can’t use the normal search query on LDS.org to find those. Weird. The following links should now work correctly:

Looking ahead, I’d like to make it possible to reference certain things with just a verse number. For instance, “Article of Faith 1” or “first article of faith” should be hyperlinked to A of F 1:1. That might also be nice to implement for single chapter books (e.g. Jude, Enos, 4 Nephi, etc.). Let me know if you have any feature requests.

This release should be pretty much bug free, so I’ll let it sink in for a while before I try to update it (or I may release another bug fix tomorrow — who knows?). I’ve got homework and other projects, so I don’t want to spend much more time on this for at least a month. Look for version 1.3 in a few months.

  3. I found a little thing that is more of an issue fr me than anything really. I typically inset my references with a space after the “:” symbol. So, Moroni 10: 3–5 would have that space. Your pluging requires no space. Fixable? Just a thought :)
