I got an interesting announcement from the “Salt Lake City Weblogger Meetup”:http://blog.meetup.com/144/ in my email yesterday. Apparently, Utah is one of only three states using RSS to circulate official state domuments. The email says it better than I could:

Too Many Websites
When I was in high school I thought it was really cool to collect email addresses. It started with “net@ddress”:http://www.netaddress.com, which, to my knowledge, was one of the first to offer free email. My dad discovered it and quickly signed my whole family up with free accounts.

A Better Wishlist
Well, smack me up the side of my head with a rubber tuna fish. It’s so devilishly simple I’m not sure why hundreds of people haven’t done it before.
Tech Recap
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, and many important things have happened in the tech world.
First off, “Thunderbird 1.0”:http://www.getthunderbird.com has been released. I haven’t noticed much in the way of new features since 0.7, but it seems to be extremely stable and sports a stylish new default theme (although that may have debuted in version 0.9, which I somehow completely skipped over).
Amazon Wish List
My brother-in-law just sent me an email requesting that I set up an “Amazon Wish List”:http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/104-1222795-7263163?%5Fencoding=UTF8&id=37LQWPA3ML80C. I’ve had one set up for a little while, but it was in serious need of some pruning. I spent a little time today polishing it up, so if you’d like to get me something for Christmas, be sure to check there for ideas. I’ll probably be adding more stuff as the holiday approaches.

Google Desktop Search
Google released a slick new tool this morning: “Desktop Search”:http://desktop.google.com. It allows you to search your own computer with the same speed and accuracy as a Google web search.
Disney Dream Desk
“Disney”:http://www.disney.com made an exciting announcement today. Well, you might not think it’s exciting, but everyone here at “ContentWatch”:http://www.contentwatch.com is ecstatic.
BoxWave miniSync
I ordered me a new hotsync cable for my Palm this morning. I wanted an extra so I could have one at work and one at home. The new one is a “BoxWave miniSync”:http://tinyurl.com/39a4t. There is a similar product called a “JavoSync”:http://tinyurl.com/yvhrb by JavoEdge. Both include a built-in changer (I’m pretty sure BoxWave’s picture is inaccurate).
The cables look exactly the same other than the logo emblazened on them, which leads me to believe they are outsourcing from the same as yet un-named company. They are both the same price, and I like green more than I like orange, so I went with BoxWave.

Google News Alerts
I absolutely love Google News. It brings together articles from over 4,500 different news sites, and you can search for news on any topic you happen to be interested in.
One of the greatest features they’ve added to the system is News Alerts. You can specify search terms and an email address, and you’ll receive news about your search terms as often as you specify. I’ve set up a few different ones, for instance: “mozilla firebird”, “university of utah”, “contentwatch”, and “southern baptist”. I love being able to read current news about things I am interested in, rather than having to wade through a bunch of news I don’t care to read.
