Firefox is a step closer to coming out of beta. Version 1.0 RC1 was released this morning, but it’s not a regular update. If you’d like to test it out, see the “software update “:http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/qa/softwareupdate.html page.
I’ll probably wait to install it tomorrow morning. I should have a little time then to write a review if I find any new features/bug fixes worth mentioning.
I’m sorry I haven’t updated for a while. I’ve been busy with two jobs and a few unfinished projects, including switching my blogs from “Movable Type”:http://www.movabletype.org to “WordPress”:http://www.wordpress.org.
Once I’ve made the switch, I’ll be posting here more often. Stay tuned…
I was chatting with an acquaintance from the “wiki”:http://www.hrwiki.org tonight and he said something in passing about me being against Microsoft. From my website he saw that I’m not fond of IE, and assumed (understandably so) that I must be equally opposed to all things Microsoft. I suppose I should set the record straight.
Google released a slick new tool this morning: “Desktop Search”:http://desktop.google.com. It allows you to search your own computer with the same speed and accuracy as a Google web search.
A friend of mine has been using Firefox for a few months now. Today he popped up on my instant messenger and asked me:
bq. Joey… in two words, what is the best thing about firefox? My friend is looking over my shoulder, and I’m not the biggest advocate… I’m not even sure why I use it, but I do.
The ensuing conversation was a lot of fun, and we both agreed that the “two word” format was effective and entertaining. He also asked that I post the list on my site as a ready reference.
I received a fun little package in the mail last week: the “Strong Bad Sings CD“:http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Strong_Bad_Sings_CD.
Some of the songs are lame, but for the most part it’s a great CD. I especially like “The Cheat is Not Dead,” “Techno,” and all the songs by Limozeen and Taranchula.
I’ve almost matched my former Movable Type blog using WordPress.
I’m not so sure motion sensor lights in bathrooms are a good idea.
I read “an interesting article”:http://wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,65106,00.html over at “Wired News”:http://www.wired.com yesterday. Apparently, Google News is facing some complex issues. I’ve been wondering for a while why it’s still considered beta even though it hasn’t changed much since I stumbled across it almost a year ago.
The answer is simple: it’s not generating any revenue for Google. Since they are culling their news from thousands of third-party sites who they are not contracted with, if they were to throw any advertising up they would probably be hit with a class-action copyright infringement lawsuit.
It’s really a shame, as I think their idea is an extremely good one. I’ve been using it as my only news source for several months now.
